The Williams Family recently made a gracious donation to the Flyers in the name of Mark Anthony Reed. This gift sponsored our trip to San Antonio. On behalf of the Flyers Ball Club, we thank you! Please read more about Anthony and the scholarship fund below…
Mark Anthony Reed is the brother of Linda Williams. He graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s in computer science and worked for NCR for 25 years as a worldwide troubleshooter before he became a paraplegic in 1999. Anthony did not let being in wheel chair kill his love of life and sports. He was a lifelong sports fan and loved his Wichita State Shockers as well as being a season ticket holder for the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Cowboys, and seat holder at Texas Motor Speedway.
When not at major sporting events he could often be found front row center all of his niece’s and nephew’s games. He used his love of sports to help build a legacy of giving by setting up a fund to sponsor various youth sports activities and teams. In addition to sponsoring teams and individual players, in 2005 Anthony footed the entire bill for his great nephew Jordan’s baseball team to play one of their regular season games at the Texas Rangers Dr. Pepper youth baseball field. He always gave without asking for any recognition in return.
This legacy of giving continues after his passing, thru his sister Linda Williams and nephew (coach) Curtis Millett. It is only fitting that on July 31, 2016, which would have been Anthony’s 61st birthday, the Flyers prepare to travel to San Antonio for fun filled weekend of family and basketball. It is Mrs. Williams honor to be able to help make that trip a possibility for our young Flyers!
The Williams/Millett family would like to personally thank Jerome McCarthy and his wife Marla for blessing these young men with the opportunity to be part of their basketball family and providing them with such a great faith based vision!! To quote Anthony’s favorite band, AC/DC: “For those about to [ball]. We salute you!”
